Things to keep in mind when searching for a groomer:

 1) Do not be misled by groomers who claim to be more qualified because they are "licensed" or "certified".

    There is NO agency that governs pet groomers. Groomers do NOT have to be liensed or certified. There are some "certifications" in existance but most deal with pet safety and pet CPR. There are academies such as the NASH Academy that will teach a new groomer how to groom certain breeds and thus issue completion certificates to show that a groomer has completed the necessary course to learn to groom that particular breed. Other licenses required of groomers are those that deal with sales tax and payroll tax. If a groomer claims to be certified, ask to see that certification and research the agency/school that supplied it.

    Ask for references!!!

2) Ask WHO is actually grooming your pet.

   There are people out there who's main goal is to take advantage of any and everyone from the innocent student who wants to learn to groom to the client who is misled as to who is who is actally doing the work. We have heard of people who decide to open their own grooming school and charge students a rediculous fee then have the students groom the establishment's clients on their own dime. The school's owner is making money hand over fist, all he while misleading the client by claiming their pet is in the capable hands of a seasoned groomer. Stick around and watch. There should be an opening to the grooming area that allows the pet owner a peek as to what is going on with their pet. Your pet is your child. Would you drop your child off at a daycare that you have not researched, or that hides their play area from parents' sight? 

   Ask for references!!
